Year of the Dragon

January 22 , 2012 by: Hong Holiday, Inspiration

Happy Lunar New Year! This is the year of the Dragon. It symbolizes royalty, fortune, and power. And since I have neither of these I am confident this will be a great year, as I was born a dragon.

This is one of my favorite Holidays as it presents an opportunity for my children to gain perspective on their cultural background. I will be honest though, so far the only thing they associate with during this time of the year are the tiny little red envelopes that represent good luck and filled with a monetary gift. The other reason I love this Holiday is the gathering of family and food, two priorities in my life with neither one superseding the other. The thought that you can start anew and receive a clean slate each year is pretty refreshing. Although I haven’t always believed in all of the cultural traditions I’ve been raised with, I think this year will be different. Who doesn’t want royalty, fortune or power?

  • Spent the weekend at anchor in Liberty Bay. These types of weekends alway remind me of how little we really need in life; nourishment, warmth, love, and a little attention. Happy Earth Day.
  • One of the things I love most about travel is the the discovery of universal languages such as food and an appreciation for culture. Some cities of course are better hosts than others at this but the discovery is part of the magic. This concludes my travel posts but I’ve decided to resurrect my blog to post more photos and tips specifically about Lisbon since some of you have inquired. More to come! ❤️
  • Lisbon; lively and busy but time stand stills. Modern with lots of character and respectful of traditions. Do yourself a favor and book your next trip to Lisbon. .
